Wczoraj podczas gdańskiego spotkania morsów, pingwinów i foczek zostało wypuszczonych 12 geokretów biorących udział w wyścigu z Gdańska do Berlina. Thanks to Peter from Romania, GeoKrety are now fully supporting waypoints from geocaching.plus.ro (Romanian database) and www.rejtekhely.ro (a local Hungarian language website for caches only from Transylvania (Romania)). Waypoints are updated daily (nightly, to be precise).

Holidays are a time of moving around for many GeoKrets. A lot of them will visit other countries and caches registered on different geocaching systems. Please remember, that there are still geocachers (hard to imagine, though), who haven't seen a GeoKret before and have no idea, what to do when they find it. That's why we are encouraging you to always provide your GKs with instructions what to do with the mole after someone discovers it in a cache. These should always be written at least in English but prefferably in 2-3 other languages.

wakacje to czas wyjazdów, nie tylko dla ludzi, ale i dla kretów. Wiele z nich przekroczy granicę naszego kraju, a niektóre nawet kontynentu :) Choć trudno w to uwierzyć, ciągle zdarzają się ludzie, którzy nie wiedzą, co to są geokrety i do czego służą. Pamiętajcie zatem, by swoje krety opatrywać w stosowną etykietkę, gdzie oprócz informacji niezbędnych do zalogowania była by też instrukcja, co zrobić z napotkanym kretem. Niestety, również znajomość języka polskiego poza granicami naszego kraju nie jest zbyt powszechna, więc dbajcie, żeby informacja ta była dostępna również po angielsku. Wszystko to razem pomoże Waszym kretom w szczęśliwej podróży. Czego sobie i państwu życzę :)

We've decided to rebrand the GeoKrety to GeoŻaby (polish: żaba = frog). We also recommend you to change all labels of GeoKrety to the new name.

We had some serious server problems (hardware + software + internet provider). Fortunatelly we managed to deal with it and now GeoKrety are online again! No data loss!

All the scripts working behind the logging page, which provide automatic tracking code verification and waypoint database lookups, should be working once again.

We have added a new log type: dip. Now you can easily mark places your geokrets have visited while keeping them all the time in your inventory. So instead of two operations: drop & grab, you can now simply dip them :)
We've also updates all recent logs/moves pages and the inventory page to use the new layouts.

No more copying/pasting waypoint names and coordinates. Simply pick the geokret you wish to drop in that particular cache and you will be redirected to the standard logging page with all data already filled in. Check the date, add comment and hit the button. Easy, right? ;) Get the new version here.

Hello everyone :) It's time for a little update. As you might have noticed we are refreshing some parts of the site and adding new features here and there. It started with more detailed "My geokrets" and "Watched geokrets" pages, a completely new "Photo gallery" for each geokret and new features like: renaming photo descriptions and setting avatars for your geokrets. In the mean time I've released a new version of GeoKrety Toolbox which uses a new, tailored search engine on the site. It runs faster here, transmits way less data and displays results faster in your browser, no buts! Hope you like these changes, more are coming soon but now, enjoy your weekend!

Today we are celebrating the second birthday of GeoKrety! Thank you - users - for two years of moving geokrets and for many ideas making our site work better. Also thank you - programmers and translators for making GK more international.

Not connected with GK, but quite interesting -- some site stats:
On average, we have ~8000 unique visitors / month, mainly from Poland, Germany, Estronia and Czech Republic. They are mainly Windows users (91.2 %, while Linux 4.9 % and Mac 2.3 %). This month we had also one CP/M user :)
FireFox browser is a clear winner (53.8 %) while MS Internet Explorer has only 27.8 % (Opera 6.5 %).

simor wrote a usefull script for web browsers:
"script was written to build a bridge between the most popular geocaching site and a relatively new site that offers a free tracking service - geokrety.org. Right now the script has only one function. Once you enter a particular cache page on geocaching.com it will automatically check if there are any geokrets (items tracked on geokrety.org) inside that cache and show the result in the inventory section on the right side of the screen (below the existing list of Travelbugs and Geocoins)."

I have checked with Brian, and his definitive answer is that these 'rogue' TBs are not of concern to us - reviewers and GS staff. We cannot govern their usage, and Geocachers are allowed to give out GC codes.

The new side-product is now avaliable - the waypoint resolver. Just type the geocaching waypoint and you will be redirected to the apropriate page. The list of probably lost geokrets (ie geokrets, which had been dropped into a cache, which was later archived) was enhanced by adding a map of their last location.

As probably some of you noted, the layout had been refreshed. The main reason for that was the fact, that we wanted to add few new links and functions, and in the old menu, there was no place for it...

Yes! We have a new member in OC family! The www.opencaching.org.uk site was launched recently, with OK waypoints prefix. And, of course, is fully supported by GeoKrety. Welcome and have fun!

Tiny improvements before holidays:
1) It is possible to use <br /> and <img /> tags in the GK description edited before printing. This way you can easily add a small picture to the GK label (to the description).
2) When logging GK you can use the calendar to enter the date. Just click on the icon near the "date" field ()

I'm proud to announce that since wednesday we have a new geocacher in our family! Konstancja weights 3950 g and is 55 cm tall. And - of course - I'm the proud father!

As we have been collecting waypoints of significant number of caches (about 43000 caches around the world - click here for a list of supported services) we decided to generate a transparent map of those caches for garmin units (img format). Now you can have all those caches on one map (actually: mapset).
The map is avaliable as a MapSource installer and as zip archive for self installation or other purposes. The map is generated every day (at 3AM CET/CEST).

The map was tested on Garmin Vista HCx, but on other recivers should also work fine (If you have a nice screenshot from your receiver, please send us. We would like to see the map in action!).

There is also a map of confluence points, for those who are fans of intiger lat/lons.

1) Thanks to Yergo (who wrote the function), we can enter coordinates in a more flexible way. First of all we can enter the strong in "one portion", just copied from MapSource, gpx file or geocaching.com page. Eg: just enter N 52° 10.369' E 021° 01.542'. Moreover the system accepts more formats. For list of examples click here.
I hope there is no bugs, but if you find any, let me know.
